CENTRAL CITY - Ben Topmiller Jr., 90, of Central City, died Monday, December 18, 2017, at 2:40PM at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Benjamin Topmiller, Jr. was born August 7, 1927, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the only child of Benjamin and Ruth Hunt Topmiller. Mr. Topmiller graduated from Hughes-Kirk High School in 1945 and married his high school sweetheart, Margie, in June of that same year. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Western Kentucky University. He holds the distinction of being the youngest coach in Kentucky high school basketball history to lead his team to the Sweet Sixteen in 1948. After several years as a teacher and coach, Mr. Topmiller was the superintendent of the Muhlenberg County School system for 22 years. After retiring in June 1991, he and his wife, Margie, moved to New Port Richey, Florida, to live until returning to Central City, Kentucky in 2009. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Central City. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Bryant; and parents Benjamin, Sr. and Ruth Hunt Topmiller.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Topmiller; son David (Sharon) Topmiller of Central City; grandchildren Elizabeth (Bryant) Clark, Amy Bryant, Jared (Ashley) Topmiller, and Katherine (Ryan Jordan) Topmiller; and great-grandchildren Claudia Williams, Marilyn Clark, Benjamin Jordan, Aurelia Jordan, and Hayden Topmiller.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 1:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Chase Thompson officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday after 11:00AM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
