Ernestine Stroud Butcher, 95, of 625 Main St., Sacramento, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, at
Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville. She was born June 4, 1913, in Sacramento. Mrs.
Butcher was born to Ash P. and May Whitmer Stroud. She attended Owensboro Business College. She
retired as auditor and comptroller of Fort Knox National Bank after 13 years of service to return
to Sacramento to take care of her mother after her father's death. She was assistant
cashier of Sacramento Deposit Bank for 20 years before going to the Fort Knox National Bank. She
was a member of Sacramento Baptist Church and taught the Class of Ruth for many years. She was a
member of Sacramento Order of the Eastern Star No. 57. She also served as treasurer of the
Kentucky Banking Association and was the state membership chairman of the Association of Bank
Women. She was also a member of the McLean County Aging Council. She was preceded in death by her
first husband, Wayland Roberts; and her second husband, Lt. Col. Marvin L. Butcher, who served in
Vietnam. Survivors include her stepdaughter, Glenna (Clifford) Russell; four stepgrandchildren;
several stepgreat-grandchildren; and several cousins. Services are at 1 p.m. Sunday at Tucker
Memorial Chapel in Sacramento, with the Rev. Tim Roberts officiating. Burial will be in
Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
