GREENVILLE - Joanna Fox, 72, died Monday, November 4, 2013 at her home in Greenville.

Born in Greenville November 12, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William Joseph Fox and the late Alma Boggess Fox and the granddaughter of the late William Steward Fox and the late Wilda Agnes Fox, all of Drakesboro.

Joanna attended Brescia College and earned a Bachelor of Science and a Masters degree from Western Kentucky University. She was a retired teacher for the Muhlenberg County school system. Her first teaching job was in Millersburg, OH. She then returned to her roots in Muhlenberg County where she taught history, physical education, health , and driver's education at Greenville High School. After county school consolidation, Joanna moved to the history department at Muhlenberg South High School. During her teaching career, she coached girls' basketball, cheerleading, golf, and tennis with her teams winning numerous awards. Joanna also traveled extensively throughout Europe as a chaperone for her high school students. After retiring from the Muhlenberg County school system, her love for teaching and dedication to helping young people led her to a job teaching driver's education at the Earl C. Clement Job Corp where she enjoyed helping troubled youths. Joanna inspired generations of students with her enthusiasm both in and out of the classroom and with her boundless energy. At last count, she had taught over 3,000 students.

Joanna loved basketball, and along with her friend Cheri she rarely missed a KHSAA Sweet Sixteen, SEC, or NCAA tournament. She had many accomplishments including: founding member and past president of the Muhlenberg County Genealogical Society, author of two volumes of research on Boggess family genealogy, member of the DAR, Drakesboro City Councilwoman, 3rd region chairperson of KAPOS, and a referee for the KHSAA to name a few.

Joanna is survived by her sister, Janice Fox of Central City. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Drakesboro.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11:00AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Tom Stovall officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8PM at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
