Melva was born on December 29, 1959, in Greenville, to Melvin and Ruby Gaines. She graduated from Drakesboro High School in 1977, was a member of Riverside Missionary Baptist Church, a former beautician, recently retired Office Manager for the Muhlenberg County Water District in Greenville, a loving mother to her children, and "Mammy" to all of her grandchildren who adored her. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Gaines; and brother, Victor Gaines.

When Melva and Leonard were not off cruising around in an airplane, she loved having a home full of her grandbabies. She was a loving, compassionate, bright, puzzle solving, make-up obsessed, shoe hoarding, jewelry wearing, wife, momma, mammy, sister, aunt, and daughter that will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 3, 2020, at 11:00AM at Riverside Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Scott Casebier officiating, assisted by Bro. Greg Brooks. Burial in Riverside Cemetery.
