ESTERO, FL - Patsy Melendez, 83, of Estero, Florida passed away peacefully with family by her side late in the evening of January 28th, 2017 at the Hope - Joanne Hospice facility in Bonita Springs, Florida. Patsy was born on October 30th, 1933. She and her husband of 64 years had resided in Greenville, KY from 1972 to 2013. She is survived by her loving husband , Raymond Melendez of Estero, Florida; her endeared sister, Sue Thomas, wife of Phillip Thomas Sr. of Madisonville, KY, three children, sons: Tony Melendez with his spouse Shelia of Greenville, KY, and Danny Melendez with his spouse Pamela of Lebanon, Tennessee; a daughter, Tammy Angela Melendez-Sanders with her spouse Scott of Madisonville,KY, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Melendez was preceded in death by her father, Othal M Taylor in 1993, her mother Beatrice McCaskill Taylor in 1997, Her brother Kenneth (Tex) Othal Taylor and his wife Dorothy Lis Taylor in 2003.

Patsy was a military wife and spent time living in Japan, Germany, and several locations in the United States as her husband moved from one duty assignment to another. Her two younger children were born in Bad Constadt, Germany during her husband's first of two European tours. While living in Europe she visited Austria, France, Holland, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland. After her husband's retirement from the military in 1967, her family settled in Lafayette, Indiana for five years. The family relocated to Greenville, KY in 1972. Before coming to Greenville, Patsy had been an elderly care nurse in Maryland and Indiana. She also was a homemaker and involved herself in community activities as well. She had been a volunteer and served as local director of the American Red Cross in Muhlenberg County from 1974 to 1976. Patsy became the president of the Greenville Marching Blackhawks Band Boosters association and served two terms at that position in 1977 and 1978. Her husband retired from a coal company, Andalex Resources, in 1995 after providing 23 years of service to that company. The couple then purchased a Condominium in Estero, Florida. Where, for many years they spent their winters playing golf, and relaxing in the warm Florida sun. They also journeyed on trips to Mexico, Costa Rica, and Alaska. In the fall of 2013, Patsy left Greenville for the last time to go to with her husband and spend her remaining years in Florida.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at 11:00AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Father Eugene Batungbacal officiating. Burial in Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday after 9:00AM at the funeral home.
