GREENVILLE - Shirley Ruth Sparks Rowe, 82, of Greenville, died Monday, February 13, 2017, at 8:18PM at Signature of Hart County in Horse Cave. Shirley was born December 17, 1934, in Muhlenberg County. She and her husband, Fred, began the House of Onyx in 1967 by importing onyx sculptures from Mexico. Together they developed the company into a global source for gemstones and jewelry, serving clients worldwide for 50 years. Shirley traveled extensively, visiting clients and vendors around the world and building lasting relationships. She remained active in the business and leaves behind a dedicated staff who she considered part of her family.

Shirley met and quickly became friends with all who knew her through her business ventures. She always shared her love for Christ with them, many of whom were non-Christian. She has witnessed and led many friends and strangers to the Lord. She was baptized at Second Baptist Church in Greenville on October 23, 1949. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church, where she was a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and served on many committees and mission trips. She loved her church and her church family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Rowe III; son Fred Rowe IV; parents, Leonard and Thelma Sparks; and sister Judy King.

Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca (Donald) Baker of Greenville; son Scott (Tracy) Rowe of Winter Haven, FL; grandchildren Aaron Baker, Brandon (Tina) Baker, Theresa (Anthony Heilman) Rowe, Alexandra (Aaron Donato) Rowe, Fred (Jacquline) Rowe V, and Sarah Rowe (Rodger) Light; great-grandchildren Blaine George, Jacob Baker, Allison George, Katherine Baker, Breanna Baker, Aubree Light, and Carter Light; great-great-grandchild Aaliyah George; sister Brenda Sue (Mike) Wheatley of Madisonville; and brothers Larry (Elaine) Sparks of Greenville, David (Karen) Sparks of Lexington, and Tony Sparks of Madisonville.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 17, 2017, at 11:00AM at Second Baptist Church in Greenville, with Rev. Bob Thurman officiating, assisted by Rev. Curtis McGehee. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8PM at Second Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Second Baptist Church Building Fund or Gideons International. Envelopes will be available at the church.
