CENTRAL CITY – Mrs. Wanda Chaney Doss, 84, prominent Central City business woman and owner of Chaney's Bar-B-Que and Steak House in Central City since 1954 until it burned seven years ago, passed away suddenly the evening of Saturday, December 10th, 2016, at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. Wanda was born October 13, 1932, to the late UMWA organizer Arthur F. and Lorene Walker Chaney of Central City and Graham. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Central City.

Wanda was the widow of former Democratic State Representative Eugene Doss and co-owner of Chaney's Bar-B-Que. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Murl Chaney and Jerry Ann Chaney Dossett; and one brother, Lewis E. Chaney Sr.

Besides owning and operating Chaney's Bar-B-Que, Wanda and her husband Eugene Doss built and owned Chaney's 18-hole Miniature Golf Course back in the early 1960's, the first of it's kind in Muhlenberg County at the time. They also owned several rental properties that included The Bunny Bread Building, The Life and Casualty Insurance Building, and Cardinal Recording Studios that later became MACHI Studios, all along Highway 62 and Stringtown Road corner in Central City.

Mrs. Doss was also very active in local and national clubs plus various charity organizations over the decades. Wanda belonged to the Central City Business and Professional Women's Club, where she held the offices of President, Vice-President, and Treasurer locally, and also held office in the BPW on the state, national, and international level over the years. She was also very active in the Eastern Star, where she was a lifetime member. She also belonged to the VFW and American Legion Woman's Auxiliary. She also served as President of the Central City Elementary PTA when her sons were in grade school.

Wanda was one of the founding members who organized the Kentucky Women's Hall of Fame that is now housed in the Central City Public Library. Wanda is also included in a biography in the book "Personalities of the South" Bicentennial Memorial Edition and "Who's Who in American Women".

Wanda was also a driving force along with Mr. Harold Streets and others to get the Muhlenberg County Opportunity Center and ARC classes started in Muhlenberg County for the training of mentally and handicapped children and adults so that she and other parents of mentally handicapped children could have educational and job training opportunities for their children. This was a passion for Mrs. Doss because her youngest child was born with Downs Syndrome. She was also heavily involved in local and state Special Olympics for the same reason.

Wanda Chaney Doss was a 1950 graduate of Central City High School and that's where she met her future husband, Eugene, who was a 1949 CCHS graduate. Wanda also attended Murray State College, where she majored in Home Economics.

On top of all that, Wanda was a avid league bowler who won many first, second, and third place trophies. Their business, Chaney's Bar-B-Que, sponsored many league teams during the 1960's and 1970's.

Wanda is survived by three sons, Arthur Eugene and Jeremy Chaney Doss of Central City; and Terry Edwin Doss and his wife Linda of New Cypress; one granddaughter, Terri Lynn and husband Aaron Owens of Ireland, Indiana; one grandson Jonathon Eugene and wife Angie Trumbo Doss of Bowling Green; two great-granddaughters Taylor and Addison Owens of Ireland, Indiana; great-grandson Sam Doss of Bowling Green; sister Nancy "Cookie" Whitmer and husband Carroll of Central City; sister-in-law Nancy Ramsey Chaney of Central City; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins; and three aunts, Mrs. Mae Hendricks and Mrs. Virginia Oliver, both of Hanover, Indiana; Mrs. Margaret Embry Everly of Brentwood, TN; and Mrs. June Oliver of Portage, IN.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at 1:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Terry Chaney officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8PM and Wednesday after 8:00AM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
