BEECHMONT - Willard "Steve" Laster, age 82, of Beechmont, died Monday morning, May 27, 2013 surrounded by family in Des Plaines, IL. Born July 5, 1929 in Drakesboro, he was the son of the late Aaron L. and Queen V. Rager Laster.

Willard moved to Chicago in 1951 with his young family and worked for 37 years with Cook Electric Company and Northern Telecom. He retired in 1988 and moved back to Beechmont with his wife. He served for many years as the Union Steward at Northern Telecom and worked tirelessly for the rights of coworkers. Since then, he has been a long time volunteer Board Member for the Community Health Center of Western Kentucky. After returning to Muhlenberg County, he and his wife traveled extensively and went on many cruises together. He also enjoyed several years as a member of the Cotillion Club of Greenville. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, an ever-optimistic lottery player, and Lake Michigan fisherman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Norma Jean Baggett Laster; along with with four children: Willard (Lois) Laster Jr. of Crystal Lake, IL, Joanne Hardt of Des Plaines, IL, Clifford (Kathy) Laster of Guston, KY, and Rebecca (John) Miller of Northfield, IL. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, wife of Edward Westen of Kewaunee, WI. He has 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was also loved by many nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11:00AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Tom Stovall officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8PM at the funeral home.
